Kabul Online Medical University in Exile (KOMU in Exile)

KOMU-E (Kabul Online Medical University in Exile) is dedicated to empowering Afghan female medical students by providing them with comprehensive, online educational opportunities tailored to the six core faculties—Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health. Through an inclusive and supportive learning environment, we aim to preserve their academic continuity and enhance their competency, ensuring they are equipped to serve the Afghan healthcare system in the future.

Vision

Our vision is to create a future where Afghan women are integral to the healthcare workforce, equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead and innovate in their communities. We aspire to be a leading institution that champions female education in Afghanistan and advocates for the rights of women to pursue their academic and professional aspirations, regardless of political changes.

Goals

  1. Educational Continuity: Provide robust online academic programs that adhere to the curriculum of Kabul University of Medical Sciences, facilitating a seamless continuation of education for female medical students who have been deprived of formal classroom learning.
  2. Cultural Relevance: Offer courses and materials in Afghanistan’s official languages (Dari and Pashto) to ensure accessibility and relevance for all students, while respecting their cultural and educational backgrounds.
  3. Resource Development: Create a comprehensive range of educational resources, including virtual libraries, mentorship programs, and online workshops, to support students in their studies and personal development.
  4. Community Building: Foster a strong network of Afghan female medical students and healthcare professionals to share knowledge, experiences, and encouragement, thereby cultivating a supportive community.
  5. Advocacy for Women’s Education: Actively advocate for policies and societal support that endorse and uphold the right to education for women in Afghanistan, working towards the normalization of female medical practitioners in the healthcare sector.
  6. Professional Readiness: Equip students with the practical skills and knowledge needed for effective clinical practice, ensuring they are prepared to meet the demands of the healthcare system when they have the opportunity to serve.

Overview of Professors at Kabul Online Medical University in Exile (KOMU-E)

Kabul Online Medical University in Exile (KOMU-E) is proud to be a beacon of hope and education for Afghan women medical students, despite the challenging circumstances. The strength of KOMU-E lies in the dedication and expertise of its professors, who are categorized into three distinct groups based on their backgrounds and roles:

  1. Professors from Afghan Medical Universities
    These professors are distinguished educators with extensive experience in implementing medical curricula at Afghanistan’s leading medical universities. Now living outside Afghanistan, they continue to contribute their knowledge and skills voluntarily to KOMU-E until the project secures funding. Their deep expertise ensures that the curriculum is delivered with the same rigor and quality as traditional medical institutions.

  2. Expert Trainers and Specialist Trainers
    This group comprises Afghan trainers and specialists who have honed their teaching abilities in the country’s prominent teaching hospitals. They possess significant experience in training residents and specialists in various medical disciplines. Currently residing outside Afghanistan, they bring a wealth of practical and academic knowledge to KOMU-E, fostering excellence in education.

  3. Specialists and MDs as Substitute Professors
    These individuals are medical doctors and specialists with prior teaching experience or a strong aptitude for education. While not full-time professors, they are passionate about supporting KOMU-E’s mission and serve as substitute professors when needed. Like the other groups, they are also based outside Afghanistan, contributing their time and expertise to this noble cause.

Curriculum Overview and Accreditation Status at KOMU-E

Curriculum At Kabul Online Medical University in Exile (KOMU-E), we are proud to offer a curriculum that mirrors the educational standards previously implemented in Afghan medical universities before the ban on female medical students. Our curriculum encompasses the same comprehensive and rigorous academic framework that prepares students across the six core faculties: Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health. We are committed to ensuring that our courses are delivered in both Dari and Pashto, languages familiar to our students, facilitating an accessible and culturally relevant learning experience. This commitment to linguistic and cultural continuity not only enhances understanding but also ensures that our students can engage meaningfully with the material.

 

Accreditation Status While we are not accredited at this moment, we want to assure our students and stakeholders that we are working diligently towards achieving formal accreditation. We fully understand the importance of accreditation in validating our educational programs and enhancing the credibility of our institution. Our team is actively pursuing the necessary steps and collaborations to meet accreditation requirements. We commit to keeping our students and community informed throughout this process. As soon as we achieve accreditation, we will prominently announce the news on our website and through our social media platforms, ensuring that everyone is updated on this significant milestone.
